    What is life like?

Do what you need to do some time and what you want to do the other time.

When people are struggling in the first case in most of their life.  They don't really have time or effort to think about what they want to.  Simple lives like my parents have had.

When people could somewhat tune up the ratio leaning to the second half.  Then it is a real hard problem. What do we want to do.  Not trying to put any life philosophy, I believe it has to be a life with dream and hope, to which every step every day is enjoyable.  Don't necessarilly be every day but at least for some moments, like the movie 'the pursuit of happyness'.  The moment of happyness make all his life worthy.

Back to me, somehow and sometimes I feel I kinda live in the future coz always I am on the way to something.  But when I have got it, suddenly the other something jumped up and the way is leading always somewhere in the future.  It might be a good thing keeping the way straight and avoid getting lost.   But in other hand, it is easy to get obsessed on the future something and get lost in this sense.

Well, you never know.  Something I believe we can try to make life better or happier:  Be grateful and brave;  Don't we be greedy;  Do good to other people, as many as we can through all our lives.

    A professor I admire

At the end of the course as well as the whole quarter, again I want to show respect to Phil Messersmith.

That was very good experience having his instruction and tutoring.  Besides the enormous new scaring nano chemical knowledge, the even greater thing is the passion I can sense from him and also the excitated enthusiasm inside me.  He is really strict on the research and very critical about experiment.   He is very responsible for his work and very hamble and nice.   Even though I often got lost and had no idea what they talking about, I was still enjoying it. hehe

Before this class, I choose Vadim Backman as the most handsome prof in our dept and now, I switch to Phil.  So nice working with him and draging him in my committee.  hoho.  Plus, now I can understand more about the old saying: University is called so not because of big building but big cows. en

    how time flies...

Something worthy to be mentioned during the passing one month.

    1. Having old classmates in town and having a great time with them.
Blue water grill for thanksgiving dinner, followed by movie 'American Gangster'.
Navy pier, Michigan Ave, having wonderful pizza in Itallian restaurant after about 1.5 hours waiting. Blues chicago bar for blues live band

    Then, big bills coming in...

    2. first time frustrated feeling in research here
The day I went one friends' lab and take a look at their super nice and cool equipment.  So envy...  dreaming to have them before my graduation.
Then suddenly felt frustrated about lab work coz many of my ideas will never be carried out without nice setup.  Luckly, I got cheered up anyway.

    3. courses
statistics is pretty easy so that I can focus on the other one 'nanomaterials'.  no idea why I registered it with high school chemistry that I can barely remember.
Through chemstry kills me during the class and I got constantly lost, I have to admit that i actually enjoyed it.  leaned lots of nano crap and they turned out very interesting.  Plus, I like the professor very much. Phil messersmith, expert on biomatirials.

    4. rewatch the movie 'a beautiful mind'
just love it, great movie.  raise my passion and respect to those men always contributing their lives.  Russell should get Oscar on his performance in it.
